Astronominal is the new EP from Shep On Bass. Each track is a live one-take improvisation, with additional drums, percussion, and vocals/spoken word being added later, based upon the vibe of the improvisation. All sounds, other than those noted have been created live, using the bass guitar and effects pedals.

I'm Shep, a bass player and producer from Derby, UK, whose main passion and inspiration are effects pedals. I approach the bass guitar more like a modular synth than anything else, using it as a full range instrument to create textures and timbres otherwise left to digital synths and software.

I don't keep any of my techniques a secret, so please see the individual track listings for the effects used on those recordings. In all cases the tracks are performed on a Roscoe LG5 Signature bass, through an EBS Fafner and Barefaced Big Twin T. The cab is mic'd (for the lows) and a DI taken from the head (for the highs, which is then duplicated and panned for stereo widening of the mix). Everything is recorded via an Audient iD22 interface into Ableton Live.
